In sports, body contact or equipment sharing are common causes of staph cross-infections that can be passed on to other team members. HIBICLENS® the antimicrobial, antiseptic skin cleanser can be part of an effective defense for preventing the spread of MRSA. Its active ingredient works in a unique way - it kills germs on contact and bonds to the skin to keep killing microorganisms up to 6 hours after washing. Hibiclens® has been proven to kill MRSA (in vitro) and other staph infections.
The decision to close a school for any communicable disease should be made by school officials in consultation with local and/or state public health officials. However, in most cases, it is not necessary to close schools because of an MRSA infection in a student. It is important to note that MRSA transmission can be prevented by simple measures such as hand hygiene and covering infections.
The danger of MRSA and other skin infections are far more extreme to firefighters than to the general public. Firefighters live in close quarters with others and experience cuts and abrasions on a regular basis. EMS workers are constantly in contact with individuals who have compromised immune systems. Hibiclens can help protect all emergency workers in all situations.
Directions for Use: Skin Wound and General Skin Cleansing: Wounds which involve more than the superficial layers of the skin should not be routinely treated with HIBICLENS. HIBICLENS should not be used for repeated general skin cleansing of large body areas except to reduce the bacterial population of the skin. To use, thoroughly rinse the area to be cleaned with water. Apply the minimum amount of HIBICLENS necessary to cover the skin or wound area and wash gently. Rinse again thoroughly.
Surgical Hand Wash: Wet hands and forearms with water. Scrub for 3 minutes with about 5 ml of HIBICLENS and wet a brush, paying particular attention to the nails, cuticles and interdigital spaces. A separate nail cleaner may be used. Rinse thoroughly. Wash for an additional 3 minutes with 5 ml of HIBICLENS and rinse under running water. Dry thoroughly.
Personal Hand Wash: Wet hands with water. Dispense about 5 ml of HIBICLENS into cupped hands and wash in a vigorous manner for 15 seconds. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Other Directions: For external use only. Keep out of eyes, ears and mouth. HIBICLENS should not be used as a preoperative skin preparation of the face or head.
