Prostate health

The prostate is a small gland that surrounds the neck of the bladder and urethra in men. If the prostate enlarges, pressure on the urethra acts like a partial clamp and causes a variety of urinary symptoms, including frequency, urgency, hesitancy and intermittency.

Half of all 50-year-old men have an enlargement condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and the prevalence of this condition increases with age. Fortunately, some herbal remedies have shown promising results in reducing symptoms associated with BPH.

SAW PALMETTO :: The fat-soluble extract of the saw palmetto berry is the leading natural treatment for BPH. Saw palmetto appears to inhibit the production of DTH. DTH is thought to be responsible for the undesirable age-related changes in prostate function.

BETA SITOSTEROL :: Beta Sitosterol is made up of phytosterols, or plant hormones, from several plants. This supplement improves urinary flow and discomfort associated with an enlarged prostate gland.

Ask your Pharmaca health care practitioners about other beneficial treatments, such as Pygeum africanum, stinging nettle and lycopene.
