Black Cohosh is used extensively in Europe and is recognized in the German Commission E Report as a safe and effective
herbal treatment. Black Cohosh addresses hot flashes, night sweating, vaginal thinning and dryness, depressive moods, sleep
disturbances, and reduced libido. It is also recognized as a treatment for nervous conditions associated with menopause.
Black Cohosh is considered safe for long-term use, and as a replacement for estrogen replacement therapy, without progestin.
The German Commission E Report states that Black Cohosh should not be used longer than six months as a matter of scientific
pragmatism. Their clinical investigations were limited to six months, and naturally no long-term safety implications could
be attached to such short-term formal investigation. The original German brand of Black Cohosh has been used since 1956
and it is considered to have a remarkable history of safety. In practical terms, Black Cohosh is not used for only six months.
