Meet our 30 Day Weight-Management Challengers!

As part of our our Renew You events this January, we invited customers to participate in our 30 Day Weight-Management Challenge. The below participants were selected to get weekly weigh-ins and consultations with a local Pharmaca practitioner, along with one of three healthy weight-management supplements: either PGX, CLA or Lean+ Extra Strength. (Learn more about these supplements.)

Throughout January, they'll be sharing their results with us, but first, learn more about our challengers and why they're interested in healthy weight management!

I am thrilled to be chosen for Pharmaca's challenge! I am a 59-year-old retired federal employee and now volunteer at Meals on Wheels of Boulder. I am committed to trying Pharmaca's new weight management supplements while incorporating new exercise programs and nutrition changes.

Ultimately, I am not ready to let osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, two total knee replacements and two spinal fusions repress my abilities. Weight loss will lessen the impact on my joints and may even lower my blood pressure. My goal is to drop 20 pounds during this first month of the challenge. I know this opportunity is just the beginning of a lifestyle change--for the better! I am thankful Pharmaca for this unique opportunity for better health and wellness!

I live in Boulder, Colo., am married to a great guy and am a busy mom of two boys. I own a successful business and love to be active outdoors, too. Currently, I am 25-30 lbs over what I consider a healthy weight for myself. Now in my mid-40s, it seems the extra weight has been here a couple ofyears and is not budging, even though I hike, bike and eat fairly well. Basically, I am scared that if I don't get a jump start on this soon, the weight will never leave--and that is definitely not healthy. My goal is to drop 5-8 lbs in the month of January, and then keep going.  I am looking forward to starting the 30-Day Challenge!

I am 30 years old, and a senior technical consultant for a revenue management consulting firm in the Bay Area. I am pretty much always on the go, typically working 10-12 hours per day. I love to be active typically, but with a new career I just haven't had the time. I love food, I am a total foodie, and though I can cook very well I enjoy eating out and typically do 5 days a week at least. In terms of eating habits, I usually eat two big portions a day, breakfast and lunch, since I am at work. I also drink a few diet sodas throughout the day, and do indulge in coffee. In terms of my weight loss goals, I would love to lose 15 pounds for the month.

I’m 27, and currently living in Palo Alto. I work in Inside Sales for Clickatell. We sell bulk text messaging. I played soccer and field hockey in high school but have had a harder time staying fit since then due to work, stress and life.

In my free time, I like shopping, playing with my cat and going on adventures with my boyfriend. I am not married and have no kids. The biggest “issues” I have are eating healthy because I love to eat. It's hard to balance healthy eating with “yummy” food. It's also hard to balance work and tasks with having time to workout.

I typically work out at the gym doing mostly cardio, about 4 days a week (Mon-Thurs). I like working out outside, like biking, hiking, but I've recently been trying yoga and pilates. My weight loss goal for the month would be 10 lbs. Overall, I’d like to lose 15-20 lbs.

I met with my wonderful practitioner yesterday. After walking in depressed, I left with a huge lift and the confidence that this is a fit for me.

I am an almost 58-year-old woman married (34 years!) to the best guy I know. I have married 31-year-old daughter (our first grandchild is due in March) and a 29-year-old married son. I've worked since I was 15 and have always enjoyed being busy. I just left a 25-year real estate career to help my husband in his new business.

I have alway struggled with my weight. I am addicted to sugar and I use that for stress. This summer, my husband had heart surgery with complications. Twenty pounds later, here I am having to lose 40 pounds! That's a first. My neck and back hurt every minute of the day. I am so grateful that this challenge came along now. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I am 57 years old, post-menopausal with Hashimoto's syndrome. I used to have a metabolism; it went the way of my natural hair color when menopause and thyroid issues started. I am not grossly overweight but I am stuck at about 25 pounds more than my frame size should be carrying, if I have figured the BMI info correctly. I am also hypoglycemic and so eat whether I am hungry or not to keep my blood sugar stabilized. This does not help matters. I am also addicted to sugar despite being hypoglycemic.

I am in good health otherwise and want to age well. I am hoping to use the challenge to stop the sugar addiction, revive my thyroid and finally lose some weight.

I was a child during the "Mad Men" era--not only did I wear garters for my first stockings, but the knowledge about the science of food was incomplete. Not that we know everything today, but we know a lot more. We did not know the value of fat, and I therefore began a diet of high-carbohydrate and low-fat, low-protein foods. What a disaster!

Throughout my life I have worked hard not to be fat. Recently, the stress of caring for aged parents has lead to an over-the-top weight gain. As a mother, wife and teacher, I am excited to work with Pharmaca for support so that my weight can get back on track. Thank you!

I'm thrilled to be a part of this challenge, the timing could not have been better. I do my best to get exercise on a somewhat regular basis, but due to my stressful desk job I often spend way too much time sitting and then am exhausted when I get home. I've gained 10 lbs since March 2010, which was a huge wake up call!

This January I plan to get out of my rut and back on the wagon. I'd love to get back to my regular weight of 140 in the next four weeks, or at least close to that. I plan to eat lots of protein, veggies and fruits and cut back on the carbs (that's never easy!).

As far as exercise, I plan to keep it interesting--I'll bounce between swimming, yoga, strength training and good old-fashioned pushups and sit-ups. I'm super excited to start working with the supplements Pharmaca has to offer, as I've never worked on a diet from the inside out. Can't wait to get started!

I am 43 years old and married, and I work full-time in finance. We have one boy who is 21 months old. We like to travel in our spare time as well as spend time outdoors with our son. I am excited to work on getting my health back in order after a really stressful couple of years. My weight loss goal for the month is 10 lbs.

I am very excited to begin the program at Pharmaca. The store is near my home in Seattle and I have been a customer for years. After trying to lose the weight alone, I now understand that I need a program to provide advice and keep me on track. I hope to lose at least 10 pounds during the month. In addition to working with Pharmaca, I exercise at least 5 times a week. If I lose my ultimate goal of 30 pounds, I will not have to take any medications for my type 2 diabetes. Here we go!
