Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy Opens in Albuquerque on October 31st
Pharmaca Reinvents the Neighborhood Pharmacy with Services Including Prescription Compounding, Vitamins, Spa and Beauty and Natural Medicine

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, the first and leading chain of integrative pharmacies in the United States, is opening its newest store in Albuquerque on Tuesday, October 31, a 5,300 sq. ft. space across from Trader Joe's at Paseo del Norte and Ventura.

Since 2000, Pharmaca has represented a new retail concept-a wellness approach combining the scientific rigors of modern pharmacy with complimentary and holistic remedies. In addition to offering a distinctive mix of products, Pharmaca also provides customer advice from a credentialed staff of pharmacists, naturopaths, estheticians, homeopaths, nutritionists and herbalists.

"Neighborhood pharmacies are traditionally a place of intimacy and connection, and our goal is to preserve that feeling through store design and customer service," said Pharmaca CEO and founder Barry Perzow. "Pharmaca locations not only have certified healthcare practitioners, but monthly health events, screenings and product demonstrations so that customers can learn about and try new and unfamiliar products for themselves."

Pharmaca first opened in Boulder, CO, and has now grown to 12 locations in Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington and Santa Fe, New Mexico, which is adjacent to Trader Joe's. The newest location in Albuquerque is a green store, meaning both environmentally-friendly and a new building and prescription base.

The Albuquerque store will include:

  • A compounding pharmacy offering customized prescriptions for children, pets, hormone replacement therapy and more.
  • A wellness design, that can't be compared to a traditional drugstore. This pharmacy will feature a welcoming space where people will linger over spa skincare lines and high-quality vitamins and supplements.
  • A section devoted to spa & beauty, including a wide array of personal care products, including high end lines, and products made with natural and organic ingredients.
  • A baby section where all-natural products for children will be offered.
  • A tea and reading area will provide access to health reference materials in a calm and soothing environment.
  • Information on environmental-friendly products that promote green living.

"Pharmaca is a new industry concept for Albuquerque and we are looking forward to opening our newest store here," said Mike Monske, Albuquerque Pharmaca Pharmacy Manager and graduate of the UNM School of Pharmacy. "The store has a full-service pharmacy, so customers can get any prescription filled. In addition, we offer compounding, which involves custom-tailoring medication to specific dosage strengths for body size, making bioidentical hormone replacement therapy products, or changing the form of a medication from a pill to a topical application or even a natural fruit-flavored lollipop for kids."

Pharmaca's grand opening in Albuquerque is Tuesday, October 31, and will feature free health screenings, consultations from certified practitioners who are the store's sales staff, mini-facials, product demonstrations and raffles. The store is located at 8910 Holly Avenue NE, across from Trader Joe's.
