An August 3, 2009, study published in the journal Pediatrics reported that the majority of American children between the ages of 1 and 21 have insufficient blood levels of vitamin D. Get 10 minutes of unprotected sun exposure at least 3 times each week. Most experts agree the benefits of vitamin D outweigh the risks of going without sunscreen for small periods of exposure.
