MANY CALL IT THE MIRACLE FABRIC
We care about our planet and all its inhabitants. The Boody Bamboo eco wear concept was born when we discovered how much more sustainable organic bamboo yarn is than organic cotton.
Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet and does not require any fertilizers or pesticides. Importantly, bamboo requires virtually no irrigation, while cotton requires more than 5,000 gallons of water to produce a bit more than 2 pounds.
Our love for bamboo grew and grew… we learned that bamboo is harvested like grass, renewing vigorously every season from it’s offshoots. And bamboo yields up to 30 times more per acre than cotton. Our production process is just as eco-friendly. Our suppliers use only closed loop systems, meaning all water is filtered and re-used.
Boody Bamboo Eco Wear – our game-changing Australian brand of fashion underwear and bodywear meets the needs of the woman or man who wants a fashionable garment that fits perfectly, looks and feels fabulous, is healthy to wear and doesn’t cost the earth.
Boody fabric has been exclusively sourced and developed from organic bamboo yarn and our garments are therefore seam-free and silky soft on the skin.
Boody does not creep or show panty lines, and washes and wears beautifully, lasting much longer than your cotton undies.
BREATHABLE AND HYPOALLERGENIC
One of the wonders of bamboo is that its fiber is hypoallergenic. Bamboo fiber naturally contains many micro-gaps, which provide substantial ventilation and moisture absorption. Bamboo fiber is hydroscopic – moisture is shunted away from the body and evaporated rapidly allowing your skin to breathe more easily.
ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL
Bamboo thrives naturally without pesticides because it contains the super anti-fungal and anti-bacterial bioagent, Bamboo Kun. This substance is tightly bound to the cellulose molecules and therefore is maintained in our finished Boody bamboo products. Recent studies by the Japanese Textile Inspection Association found these properties were maintained even after 50 washings of Bamboo fabric. The most noticeable benefit is that Bamboo cloth is odor free – odor being an unpleasant by-product of bacteria proliferation. Boody will keep you fresh all day, every day.
ANTI-STATIC AND THERMO-REGULATING
Bamboo fiber is much finer than cotton and therefore the fabric is lighter, softer and has a more luxurious drape. The millions of micro-gaps in the yarn make it highly breathable, helping you keep cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
The carbon in bamboo is known to have a balanced charge. This means that you won’t get that horrible static feel when you wear Boody.
Static free, perfect temperature… what more could you want?
BENEFITS OF BAMBOO
Bamboo textiles are cloth, yarn and clothing made out of bamboo fibers. While historically used only for structural elements, such as the ribs of old-fashioned corsets, in recent years a range of technologies have been developed allowing bamboo fiber to be used in a wide range of textile and fashion applications. Modern bamboo clothing is made from either 100% bamboo yarn or a blend of bamboo and other yarns such as cotton or other textile fibers including hemp, spandex and nylon.
Bamboo has gained popularity as a “green” fiber. Why? Manufacturers point to the fact that bamboo:
- can be cultivated quickly
- can be used as a cash crop to develop impoverished regions of the third world, and
- is a natural fiber whose cultivation results in a decrease in greenhouse gases.
Bamboo is extremely resilient and durable as a fiber. In studies comparing it to cotton and polyester, it is found to have a higher breaking tenacity, better moisture wicking properties and better moisture absorption. It is also far more eco-friendly than cotton and polyester.
SOURCE OF RAW MATERIAL
The bamboo used to make the yarn for Boody bamboo eco wear is grown in China by Hebei Jigao Chemical Fiber Company. They hold the patent on the process for turning bamboo into yarn. Boody yarn is certified organic by OCIA (The Organic Crop Improvement Association).
In order to strictly control the quality of raw material, Hebei Jigao has established its own bamboo plantation in Sichuan Province, China, and keeps strict control over its operations. The bamboo is grown in accordance with the international organic standard of OCIA / IFOAMand the USDA National Organic Program, so as to ensure each bamboo stalk is of 100% natural growth and free of any chemical pesticides.
The proof of the ecologically sound methods behind bamboo production is the fact that all of the fiber produced at the facility in China is Oeko-Tex 100 certified. This means that the finished fiber has been tested for any chemicals that may be harmful to a person’s health and has been found to contain no trace chemicals that pose any health threat whatsoever.
