Hair Care Ingredients That Work

Whether you want a sleek look or a fuller ‘do, this month we’ve got great deals on all-natural hair care. We got a little advice from Darcie Woods, esthetician and Connie Cortez, cosmetologist, at our Monterey store, on great products that can help every type of hair.

Goal: Smoothness

Juice Organics PomSmooth Shampoo & Conditioner
Key ingredients: “The aloe juice, shea butter, olive oil and jojoba help make your hair silky,” sats Connie. “Aloe is also going to help with shine, and help bring down any flyaways.” It especially helps frizzy or color-treated hair, she says, since the ingredients help soften and condition the ends.

Goal: Hydration

MOP C-System Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner
Key ingredients: “All those lovely fruit and flower oils-including geranium, lemon peel, orange and ginger root oils-help coat the hair shaft to smooth and hydrate,” says Darcie.

Goal: Volume
Yes To Tomatoes Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner
Key ingredients: The nectarine extract helps fuse fruit pectin polymers to lank hair to create volume. “And the Dead Sea water, which is naturally full of salt, probably helps give that full beachy feel to your hair,” adds Darcie. The antioxidant lycopene found in tomatoes also helps clear excess oil from your hair and scalp, which can weigh hair down.

Goal: Clarify (especially after the pool!)

Acure Organics Lemongrass & Argan Stem Cell Shampoo & Conditioner
Key ingredients: Fruit oils from pomegranate, coconut, açai and blackberry help strip the impurities from your hair, which is great if you have too much oil or like to swim in chlorinated pools. “This one has aloe, CoQ10, avocado and olive oil, which clarify without drying your hair,” says Connie. “So many awesome ingredients, and the smell is amazing!”

Goal: Tame curls or frizz

Giovanni Organics Smooth as Silk Shampoo & Conditioner
Key ingredients: “There’s a lot of vegetable and soy protein in there,” says Connie. “The soy protein especially, adds moisture and penetrates into damaged hair to help repair it.” Pair that with a variety of oils, like rosemary, orange and mango, and you’ve got a great way to nourish frizzy locks. But, Connie adds, the Smooth as Silk products won’t add any volume, so it’s not a good choice for those with fine or thin hair.
