Makeup Tutorial: Simple Beauty for the New Year

With the new year underway, it can be easy forget to make time for self-care. That’s why we created step-by-step instructions for a modern, easy beauty routine that will make you look and feel your best. (Our model has fair skin and blue eyes, but this routine can be adjusted based on your skin tone—just choose the colors that are right for you!)

BEFORE
Our model, pre-beauty routine

Foundation
To create a flawless canvas, first apply jane iredale Active Light Concealer on blemishes. Follow that up with their Amazing Base Mineral Powder for added coverage. Then use a fan brush to dust blush across the cheeks by following the line of your cheekbone. We used jane iredale’s PurePressed Blush in Copper Wind. (A good general rule for picking blush shades: if you’re warm toned, stick to peachy-pinks; cool toned, use rosy-berry shades).

Eyes

Choose a light, neutral color for your base and apply that to the entire eyelid (try the middle color from one of jane iredale‘s new Eye Shadow Triples). To highlight the brow bone, use a slightly lighter color eyeshadow or a highlighter that matches your skin tone (we used the Eye Highlighter Pencil by jane iredale).

Next, fill in brows by using small light strokes with a brow pencil. Focus most of the color on the tail and arch of your brow. I used jane iredale’s Retractable Brow Pencil in Dark Brunette.

To fill in eyelids, select a medium brown or neutral shade and apply it to the crease using sweeping motions. Start with small amounts of eyeshadow and add more as you like. This can be as subtle or dramatic as you prefer.

Add depth to the crease using the darkest color in your eye shadow palette and the same sweeping motions as before.

Finishing touches
To make the eyelashes luscious, we applied jane iredale Longest Lash Mascara in Black Ice. Finish off the look by applying jane iredale PlayOn Lip Crayon (in Yummy) and you’re ready to let your beauty shine!
